12 April 2011 – At a bank in Luxembourg the IBM i monitoring tool Pager/Control has been implemented in combination with the systems management application Nagios. Pager/Control monitors the IBM i systems and the applications running on them 24x7. When a problem occurs on the IBM I, Pager/Control will send an SNMP TRAP to Nagios where it can be further handled in the same way as other servers on the network. The implementation of Pager/Control including the integration with Nagios was operational in just one day.

A leading manufacturer automates the IBM i’s compliance challenge using SkyView Partners Security Administration software
The company manufactures a leading brand in their sector. Since a couple of years ago the company belongs to an international group of companies. The Dutch subsidiary is running their main business applications on IBM i (AS/400), 2 Power6 Systems: one for production and one for high availability and testing. Applications running on IBM i are the financial applications, a CRM application and others. The company has been utilizing IBM i and its predecessors since their introduction.

When it comes to (security) compliance the IBM System i (iSeries/AS400 etc) can seem a daunting subject at first. Even though this system is (almost) free from the scourges affecting other platforms such as viruses and hackers, this system is still subject to rigorous scrutiny from auditors. Unlike most other platforms a lot can be done with the standard security configurations within the operating system. But when we look at the complexity and diversity of this objects and environment the IBM i still demands intensive management to specify the security policies and keep them in compliance, not to mention the production and compilation of reports required by auditors.
